# Shopify Integration

> Automatically publish blog posts to your Shopify store.

## Overview

The Shopify integration allows Sight AI to publish articles directly to your Shopify store's blog. This is perfect for e-commerce content marketing and SEO.

## Requirements

* **Shopify store** -- Any Shopify plan with blog functionality
* **Blog created** -- At least one blog in your Shopify store
* **Admin access** -- Access to the Shopify Dev Dashboard for your store's organization

## Setup Instructions

Shopify offers two ways to give an integration access to your store. Pick the one that matches how your app was created.

> [tab] Dev Dashboard app (recommended)
>
> Since January 2026 every new custom app is created in the Shopify **Dev Dashboard** and authenticates with a **Client ID** and **Client Secret**. Sight AI exchanges these for a short-lived access token and refreshes it automatically, so there is nothing to rotate by hand.
>
> ### Step 1: Create the app
>
> 1. Go to [dev.shopify.com/dashboard](https://dev.shopify.com/dashboard) and sign in with the account that owns your store
> 2. Click **Create app**
> 3. Name it **"Sight AI"** and create it
>
> ### Step 2: Grant blog permissions
>
> 1. In the app, open **Access** (Admin API access scopes)
> 2. Enable these scopes:
> * `read_content` -- To list your blogs
> * `write_content` -- To create and update blog posts
> 3. Click **Release** to publish this version of the app
>
> ### Step 3: Install the app on your store
>
> 1. Click **Install app** (top right of the app's Overview page)
> 2. Choose the store you want to connect
> 3. Approve the permissions
>
> The **Installs** list should now show your store.
>
> ### Step 4: Copy the credentials
>
> 1. Open the app's **Settings** page
> 2. Copy the **Client ID**
> 3. Reveal and copy the **Secret** (it starts with `shpss_`)
>
> ### Step 5: Connect in Sight AI
>
> 1. Go to **Integrations** in Sight AI and click **Shopify**
>
> 2. Choose **Client ID + Client Secret**
>
> 3. Enter your store URL (e.g. `your-store.myshopify.com`), the Client ID, and the Secret
>
> 4. Click **Validate & continue**, pick the blog to publish to, set the author, and complete setup
>
> > [!NOTE]
> >
> > Client credentials only work when the app and the store belong to the same Shopify organization, and the app must be installed on the store. If validation fails, confirm the store appears under **Installs** in the Dev Dashboard.

> [tab] Legacy custom app (access token)
>
> Custom apps created in the Shopify admin before 2026 (**Settings > Apps and sales channels > Develop apps**) provide a static **Admin API access token** that starts with `shpat_`. These apps keep working, but Shopify no longer lets you create new ones.
>
> ### Step 1: Find your app
>
> 1. In your Shopify admin go to **Settings > Apps and sales channels**
> 2. Click **Develop apps** and open your existing app
>
> ### Step 2: Check API permissions
>
> 1. Under **Configuration**, make sure the Admin API scopes include:
> * `read_content` -- To list your blogs
> * `write_content` -- To create and update blog posts
> 2. Save if you changed anything
>
> ### Step 3: Get the access token
>
> 1. Open the **API credentials** tab
> 2. Copy the **Admin API access token**. Shopify only reveals it once; if you no longer have it, uninstall and reinstall the app to generate a new one
> 3. Note your store URL (e.g. `your-store.myshopify.com`)
>
> ### Step 4: Connect in Sight AI
>
> 1. Go to **Integrations** in Sight AI and click **Shopify**
> 2. Choose **Admin API access token**
> 3. Enter your store URL and paste the token
> 4. Click **Validate & continue**, pick the blog to publish to, set the author, and complete setup

## Connecting Multiple Stores

Sight AI publishes to one CMS per workspace (site). To connect several Shopify stores, create a workspace for each store in Sight AI, then repeat the setup above inside each workspace with that store's own app credentials. One Dev Dashboard app can be installed on several stores in the same organization, but each install still needs its own connection in Sight AI.

## Configuration Options

### Select Blog

Choose which Shopify blog to publish to. If you have multiple blogs (e.g., "News", "Guides"), select the appropriate one for your content.

### Publish Status

* **Publish immediately** -- Articles go live the moment they sync
* **Save as draft** -- Articles are saved hidden so you can review before publishing

### Author

Set a default author name for published articles.

## Publishing Articles

### Manual Sync

1. Open the article in Sight AI
2. Click **"Sync to Shopify"**
3. Confirm and publish

### Autopilot Publishing

When Autopilot is enabled, articles automatically publish to your selected Shopify blog.

## What Gets Synced

* **Title** -- Blog post title
* **Content** -- Full HTML content
* **Featured Image** -- Main post image
* **In-Body Images** -- Images within content
* **Summary/Excerpt** -- Post excerpt
* **Author** -- Post author name
* **SEO title and description** -- Written to the post's SEO metafields

## Active CMS

Sight AI supports only **one active CMS integration per site** at a time. When you connect Shopify and set it as your active CMS, articles are published to your Shopify blog instead of any previously active CMS.

You can switch to a different CMS at any time from the **Integrations** hub -- your Shopify configuration and previously published posts are preserved.

## Troubleshooting

### "Shopify rejected the Client ID or Client Secret"

* Confirm you copied both values from the app's **Settings** page in the Dev Dashboard (not from the store admin)
* Make sure the app is installed on this store: it should appear under **Installs**
* The app and the store must belong to the same Shopify organization

### "The app is missing the write\_content scope"

* In the Dev Dashboard open **Access**, enable `read_content` and `write_content`, click **Release**, then approve the new permissions on the store
* Reconnect in Sight AI afterwards so a fresh token is issued

### Connection Failed (access token)

* Verify your store URL format (`store-name.myshopify.com`)
* Check that the token starts with `shpat_` and the app has `read_content` and `write_content`
* Ensure the custom app is installed
* Try regenerating the token by reinstalling the app

### Articles Not Appearing

* Check the publish status (may be set to draft)
* Verify the correct blog is selected
* Look in **Online Store > Blog posts** in Shopify admin

### Images Not Showing

* Check that your Shopify plan supports file uploads
* Verify image file sizes are within limits
* Try re-syncing the article

## Disconnecting

To disconnect Shopify:

1. Go to **Integrations**
2. Click **Shopify**
3. Click **"Disconnect"**

Previously published blog posts remain on your Shopify store. You can also uninstall the app from the Dev Dashboard, which revokes Sight AI's access immediately.
